That “oh shit!” moment of discovery

So I pulled out some old Crossgen comics today. The first ones I ever bought. Years and years ago, when a friend tried to get me into comics. We used to go to MegaCon in Orlando together.

I only ever bought two books. Both were the Sojourn title.

And I’m looking at them and in the space of about thirty seconds I realized two things. The first is that one of these books is autographed. I met the writer and artist on this book.

The second is that the artist is GREG FUCKING LAND.

YOU GUYS

Apparently at some point in my life I MET GREG LAND.

Do you even understand what this means?? If I had only acted, if I had only known, I could have saved thousands of Iron Man fans around the world!! I could have said, “Listen to me very carefully. Whatever you do, don’t take this job. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, DON’T DO IT!!!”

Oh, if only…..

She’s not even sure what they are. He once told her about legacy, and that’s part of it, she thinks. But somewhere along the way, it stopped being about helping people and saving the world. That’s still important— it always will be. But now, they’re a family. Sure, he likes to act like her dad, her superior.. and on a certain level, he kind of… is? She’ll never see him like that, though. Not after all the times she’s been presented with his man-child tendencies. Fortunately, he’s more than the sum of his flaws— so much more. He can be a total pain in the ass (so can she, she’ll admit) but at the end of the day, he still cares about her. And that’s more than Kate ever expected.
