Science V.S. myth

Peggy in her uniform
Um, from my understanding of 616 Tony, and superiorhousewifetonystark can correct me if I am wrong, he wears big name labels like Armani, instead of something from small bespoke tailors in Naples or London, so I’m going have to go with Steve’s Commander uniform.
I think it depends on who is writing him, but it’s implied that Tony’s suits are well-tailored, high end designer most of the time. He probably doesn’t pay for them because people are getting exposure by him wearing them. But I think any real canon is vague, and it’s possible he’ll just buy a nice suit no matter who put their name on it or not.
I have a personal headcanon that yes, while he does own well-known labels like that, he prefers to wear suits from a little shop across town. A lovely, older couple owns it, and had known Tony’s parents, and even made Tony his very first suit. So maybe he wears the big-name suits to high profile events because the designers are insisting, but he prefers wearing the others suits for work because, frankly, they’re a lot more comfortable anyway.
Frankly, the best men’s suits don’t come from the big names like Armani — dependent on what kind of suit you want, of course. (Armani’s made-to-measure service is relatively new, circa 2006, anyway.) And I don’t think Armani, with its softer, less-structured look is really Tony’s business suit style. He’d want a suit with stronger shoulders, more crisp lines, and edged tailoring.
Oh man, now I’m getting excited thinking about Italian wools that feel like satin they’re so fine and the unmistakable sheen of silk broadcloth. Cashmere scarves and kid gloves. Cufflinks! Shirt studs and tie tacks. Fur felt hats. Tony certainly has to attend white tie events; he’s got plenty of the above. Hand-tooled belts and custom shoes. The squeak of new leather soles on marble tile. Piqué summer suits and grenadine ties. The smoothest poplin shirts.
Come on, get more creative than “Armani”.
This is all very true, but they do have a point with the designers throwing their suits at him for free publicity. But the best suits are the ones that are custom fit and especially made for the consumer, and even though he owns hundreds of them (between all of houses he owns), he still has his favorites… and favorite accessories, of course:
When Steve finds a pair of custom-made Captain America shield cufflinks in Tony’s room, he gets a pair of Iron Man ones made and gives them to Tony for his birthday.
For Christmas, Natasha gets him a blood-red silk tie that she had stumbled upon in a small boutique somewhere in Europe (he forgot the details because he was just amazed by the beauty of the fabric).
Thor even had Tony’s favorite pair of dress shoes enchanted so they would never wear out.
