HELP
I’M REALLY EMOTIONAL TODAY AND I GOT ALL WORKED UP OVER THE SCENE WHERE PEPPER FINDS THE HELMET AND PUTS IT ON AND GETS TONY’S MESSAGE (because I saw a gifset of it) AND IT’S JUST SO PERFECT AND I WAS SO HAPPY THEY HAD THAT HAPPEN SO THAT SHE DIDN’T SPEND THE REST OF THE MOVIE THINKING HE WAS DEADTHIS REMINDS ME OF ANOTHER THING I WANTED TO TALK ABOUT, BECAUSE I AM REALLY INTENSELY DELIGHTED AT HOW AMAZING THEY MADE PEPPER.
I’ve talked previously about how her anger that night in bed was totally justified because Tony was hurting her with this not dealing with his shit whole thing, as well as about the end when it wasn’t about Pepper when Tony destroyed the suits, aside from the fact that it was his connection to her that served as the symbolism for his connection to people/life/the rest of the world. And one of my favorite bits is that, after Tony taunted the Mandarin, Pepper would have been entirely reasonable to just walk away, but instead she was like, no, you’re coming with me, Tony, get your shit and let’s go.
The other thing I really, really loved is that a) Tony sent her a message right away and OH MY GOD FEELINGS when Pepper listened to the message and was just so relieved and happy that he was okay and b) true, part of this is that there wasn’t time for it because they weren’t reunited until later when there was other shit going on, but… Pepper was never angry at Tony about his actions here. She was never angry that he went underground without her, she was never angry that she thought he was dead, she was never putting pressure on him for things that he couldn’t really control.
Pepper is really understanding and supportive of Tony when he’s trying to do the right thing, she’s never angry at the shitstorm that came down on them, aside from Tony DELIBERATELY TAUNTING A TERRORIST (which, even then, might have just been a mild scolding, except that he clearly did it because he was having a meltdown in a series of meltdowns that have been happening since New York and TONY ISN’T FUCKING DEALING WITH IT), but instead she laughs/cries/smiles when she hears the message from Tony and trusts him to do what he needs to do.
Trust. There’s so much trust in that relationship, on both sides. And, ugh, that gives me so many feelings, too.
